FAQ - useful information about rental cars on holiday

        • How much does a rental car cost?

The car rental price depends on a number of factors, such as the car class, rental period and insurance package. When booking, choose which insurance options you would like to take advantage of. The higher the excess, the lower the booking price. Possible options are:

          • Fully comprehensive insurance and theft protection
          • Third party liability
          • All kilometres free
          • Fair refuelling arrangement
          • Free cancellation
          • Glass and tyre protection
          • Deposit amount (the deposit will be blocked on your credit card and deducted in case of damage).
        • When is the best time to book a rental car?

It is worth making a reservation for a rental car as early as possible before departure, as there can be bottlenecks at the car rental agencies in the high season.

        • What do I need to be able to rent a car?

The following conditions must be fulfilled in order to rent a car (the conditions of your tariff apply!)

          • A valid driving licence or international driving licence outside the European Union
          • A valid identification document (passport or ID card)
          • Minimum age: older than 21 years
          • A credit card (cash deposit or Maestro Card are rarely accepted)
        • What does CDW mean for rental cars?

CDW means "Collision Damage Waiver" and is equivalent to "partial cover insurance". In addition, there is also "Loss Damage Waiver", which is equivalent to "fully comprehensive insurance". Both terms originate from the insurance industry and refer to the insurance cover in the event of damage. In Europe, partial cover insurance is always included in the rental contract. However, you are still required to pay an excess in the event of damage and not all damage is covered. Glass and tyre protection must also be booked separately.

        • How much is the deposit for rental cars?

If you book a rental car, a deposit is usually also required. This is usually blocked on your credit card and only deducted in the event of damage. The amount of the deposit depends on the rental company and the excess agreed in advance. If you have concluded a rental contract without an excess, the deposit will be retained for the time being in the case of damage; however, after your trip you can submit a damage report to the rental company and the deposit will be refunded to you after the case has been examined.

        • What do I have to consider if I want to go abroad with a rental car?

Cross-border trips in neighbouring countries must be approved in advance and are not necessarily permitted. Please enquire with the respective rental company about the current regulations before booking.
